JOURNALISM
Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine, I have been reporting regularly from the scene for various media formats. My live broadcasts and interviews at PULSE24 provide authentic insights into the war: from the dramatic situation in the suburbs of Kiev („Everything is broken, everything burned out“) to the role of Lviv as a refuge for displaced people to reports of soldiers' funerals in Lviv and the slowly returning to normality in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.
Mine for him ORF Designed reports deepen these insights and tell personal stories behind the headlines. I portray the volunteer medic Max P., who risks his life in Ukraine to rescue the wounded from the front, and accompany the drone unit „Peaky Blinders,“ whose members – a lawyer, a member of parliament and an actor – are confronted with the ethical dimension of killing in war. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrMFTJxl7R4
But I also devote myself to other topics: An ORF report from Bethlehem highlights the tense situation in the Middle East and the effects of the Gaza war on the civilian population. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=467vBYLCA64
But I also work on longer formats, such as the one-hour ORF documentary „10 Years of the Refugee Crisis – The Ordeal“, which analyzes the far-reaching consequences of the 2015 refugee movement for Austria and Europe and traces several fates in order to shed light on the effects of the 2015 refugee movement from different perspectives. Together with my colleague Magdalena Jöchler, we tell the story of Hazim Kali, a man from northern Iraq who lives with the tragic consequences of his family's flight - his brother and two of his children were among the 71 refugees who suffocated in a refrigerated truck in Parndorf (Burgenland). Hasan, a young Syrian who came to Austria in 2015 and now works as a bus driver in Gmunden (Upper Austria) and is married to a woman who had to flee Ukraine, is also portrayed. A particularly touching story is that of Felix, a teenager from Villach, whose 14-year-old friend Alex was killed in a knife attack by a Syrian refugee - the film deals with how Felix thinks about migration and asylum today. The school director of the New Middle School on Kinzerplatz in Vienna's 21st district, Werner Schuster, reports on everyday life at his school, which is characterized by the challenges of integration, as the majority of children in many classes do not speak German as their native language. In addition to these personal stories, we also shed light on the political upheavals of this time in interviews with decision-makers at the time such as Sebastian Kurz (then Foreign Minister) and Thomas de Maizière (then German Interior Minister). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWU8_ugbOGc
